History

Our Rationale for History at St. Urban's.

"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots".  Marcus Garvey

At St. Urban’s we aim to stimulate children’s interest and understanding about the life of
people who lived in the past and ways in which it differs from the present. We believe that
learning about the past helps children to make sense of the world in which they live and to
develop analytical thinking.
At St. Urban’s we believe that the study of history makes a valuable contribution to
children’s understanding of all aspects of life giving a sense of identity and heritage.

Thank you to Charis in Year 1 for sharing her wonderful Remembrance Day artwork she did at home.

Throughout the school we have been finding out about Queen Elizabeth's reign as a Monarch. We have been enquiring about the Queen's life, including her achievements, her family and the decades through which she has been Queen. Here are some examples of what we have done so far...

Who Inspires You? We asked this question to everyone across the school and some fabulous, informative research was made about some historical (and more recent) figures we admire.
