Our Vision for History

"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots".  Marcus Garvey

Our History education at St Urban’s aims to inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past, developing a knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Pupils should develop key skills including asking perceptive questions, thinking critically, weighing up evidence, sifting through arguments and developing perspective and judgement. Pupils are encouraged to question their understanding of the past, gain an in-depth understanding of significant events in the past as well as appreciating how things change over time. Without History, there would be no future!

Throughout the school we have been finding out about Queen Elizabeth's reign as a Monarch. We have been enquiring about the Queen's life, including her achievements, her family and the decades through which she has been Queen. Here are some examples of what we have done so far...

Who Inspires You? We asked this question to everyone across the school and some fabulous, informative research was made about some historical (and more recent) figures we admire.
