Friday 20th November

Having read up to Chapter 13, we are now putting our focus on the library scene in which Arthur reads the explorer biographies. Use the extracts below to write your very own imagined explorer biography. Be creative and imaginative and try to adapt your writing style to Vashti Hardy's.

Today, we are studying closely and comparing the characters of Eudora Vane and Harriet Culpepper. Use the sheet below to give personality traits and note evidence to back this up.

Wednesday 18th November

Friday 13th November

Today, we will having an edit of our letter drafts before writing the finished versions up neatly. We are still aiming to use Vashti Hardy's writing tools- along with our personal writing targets in mind- to make our letters a piece of work we can truly be proud of. 

Thursday 12th November

At the end of chapters 3 and 4 of 'Brightstorm', things couldn't get much worse for twins Arthur and Maudie. Finding themselves living at the dark and grim 'Beggins Hall', we today imagine Maudie writes a letter to her father- wherever he might be. We will be identifying the author's writing tools before rafting the piece in jotters today.

Wednesday 11th November

Following our reading of Chapter 2, we are seeing events through the eyes of the Brightstorm twins. Choosing either Maudie or Arthur, write a first-person account of your exit through the courtroom doors...

Monday 9th November

We continue our first look at new class novel, 'Brightstorm' by Vashti Hardy, today. We will be reading chapter 1 before discussing the highs and lows already expereienced by our main characters. We will then chart the chronological ups an downs of their emotions in an 'Emotion graph', as posted below:

Wednesday 4th November

Our first lesson on new class novel, Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy! As an exciting introduction, we are going to plunge straight into a task which requires us to unpick, edit and improve suspense-filled writing. Ink-waster task: write as quickly as you can a draft about being chased through an unknown door. What lies behind? Who is chasing you? Who is inside? Is all as it seems? Having done this, read the below extract from 'Brightstorm' and pick out the writerly tools which slowly build suspense.
