# Today's Maths lesson

For each activity sheet, you can print it out and complete it or you can just put the sheet on screen and answer the questions straight on to paper.

Friday 20th November

Having looked at adding mixed numbers, we will now start to look at subtracting mixed numbers. For today, we will keep the common denominators fairly simple.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Subtract mixed numbers') and then complete the activity below.

Thursday 19th November

Following on from the last lesson, we will be practising adding mixed numbers - and we may need to think about the common denominator a bit more.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Add fractions') and then complete the activity below.

Tuesday 17th November

Yesterday we were adding and subtracting fractions, including improper fractions. We will practise that a little more today and then we will start to add mixed numbers, looking at two different approaches.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Add mixed numbers') and then complete the activity below.

Monday 16th November

Today we will continue to practise adding and subtracting fractions - this time the denominators may not have a common factor.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Add and subtract fractions (2)') and then complete the activity below.

Friday 13th November

We will start today's lesson by looking a bit more at comparing fractions (using common denominators and equivalent fractions - see Thursday's lesson).

Then we will look at adding and subtracting fractions where the denominators do have a common factor.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Add and subtract fractions (1)') and then complete the activity below.

Thursday 12th November

In today's lesson we will first have another look at placing fractions on a number line (see Tuesday's lesson).

Then we will move on to ordering fractions (mainly by using equivalent fractions to make sure the fractions we are comparing have the same denominator).

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Compare and order (denominator)') and then complete the activity below.

Wednesday 11th November

Today we will attempt another Arithmetic paper. Think about the last one we did and what you planned to get right this time to improve your score. Was it making sure you added/subtracted in the right places? Was it making sure you used our calculation methods more accurately? Was it one of the type of fraction or percentage questions?

Tuesday 10th November

In today's lesson we will first have another look at converting mixed numbers to improper fractions (see Monday's lesson).

Then we will move on to placing fractions on a number line.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Fractions on a number line') and then complete the activity below.

Monday 9th November

There are two parts to today's lesson.

First of all, we will be converting improper fractions to mixed numbers.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Improper fractions to mixed numbers) and then complete the first activity below.

After that, we will be reversing the process and converting mixed numbers to improper fractions.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Mixed numbers to improper fractions') and then complete the second activity below.

Thursday 5th November

In class we will, first of all, practise finding equivalent fractions, then we will move on to simplifying fractions to their simplest form.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (from White Rose Maths) ('Simplify fractions') and then complete the activity below. There is also a video on 'Equivalent fractions' that you could watch too.

I won't be adding any activities for Friday as school is closed to pupils!

Tuesday 3rd November

We started to look at this yesterday in class but we will develop this further today.

We will improve our ability to reason from known facts - taking what we already know to help us work out something else.

Click on this link to watch the main lesson video (Reason from known facts) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Monday 2nd November

Welcome back after half-term!

Today we will look back at the order of operations (see Tuesday 20th October) and also look at Mental calculations and estimation.

Click on this link to watch the main lesson video (Mental calculations) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Half-term

I hope everyone enjoys half-term - you deserve to!

I have not set any My Maths for homework this week. Instead, there is some problem-solving for you.

Those in school on Thursday have received one of the following sheets to tackle. Try at least one of the sheets. Number 2 is more challenging than number 1.

The homework is due to be handed in by Thursday 5th November.

Thursday 22nd October

We will spend some time today having a look through some of the questions from the arithmetic paper (especially 8,19 and 23 and then 13 and 15).

We will also be practising some problem-solving.

With the problems, remember to think carefully about what you have to do (before trying to do it!). To make a question easier to understand, try replacing the numbers with easier ones - doing this can help you work out what you need to do.

Complete the activity below.

Wednesday 21st October

During Maths today, we will be practising an arithmetic paper. I would like everyone to try it to see how they do, so that next time you can try to beat your personal best and improve.

You have 30 minutes to do as much as you can. Remember my advice - 'Pot as many balls as you can' - make sure you first do the questions you can more easily before trying the trickier ones and if you're finding a question difficult, move on - you can come back to it later if you have time.

A  copy of the paper is below - the answers are included in the file on the last page so you can check after you have finished!

Tuesday 20th October

Today we will quickly look at square numbers and cube numbers before moving on to study the order of operations - if there's more than one calculation to carry out, there's a set order we need to do them in and it might not be just working from left to right!

If you can, first watch the video about Square and Cube Numbers.

Click on this link to watch the main lesson video (Order of Operations) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Monday 19th October

We'll start today's lesson in class with a recap of factors before moving on to look at prime numbers.

Don't forget 1 is not a prime number and that 2 is a prime number.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Primes to 100) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Friday 16th October

Yesterday in class we started to look at factors. Today in school, we will develop this learning and start to look at common factors.

So, for home learning today there are two videos and two activities.

The first is a recap of factors learning from Year 5 and the second moves on to common factors.

If you need the practice, then spend some time on the Factors video and activity.

If you understand this quickly, spend more time on the Common Factors video and activity.

Click on this link to watch the lesson videos (Factors and Common Factors) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete at least one of the activities below.

Thursday 15th October

Today, we will have one more look at long division.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Long division (3)) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Wednesday 14th October

Today is the day we practise our fluency skills.

Have a go at the sheet below.

Tuesday 13th October

Today, we continue to look at long division and we develop our understanding and abilities.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Long division (2)) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Monday 12th October

Today, we start to look at long division. Many pupils find this looks daunting to begin with but end up enjoying the satisfaction of working through the method to successfully work out the answer to a difficult calculation.

(Yes, this is the final lesson in Week 5 - the complications of Bikeability mean we are not quite up with the White Rose Maths programme).

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Long division (1)) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Friday 9th October

For our final lesson this week, we will look at dividing using factors. Can we find simpler ways of dividing by big numbers than using a formal method?

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Division using factors) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Thursday 8th October

In our next lesson in this Bikeability week, we will continue to practise short division.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Short division) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Tuesday 6th October

In today's lesson we will practise dividing with remainders.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Divide with remainders) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Monday 5th October

In today's lesson we will start to look again at division. We will start be revising the concept of division and what it means practically.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Divide 4-digits by 1-digit) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Friday 2nd October

In today's lesson we will develop our learning from yesterday and learn how to multiply 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Multiply up to a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activity below.

Thursday 1st October

In today's lesson we will be practising multiplying 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers so there are two videos to watch and two sheets to complete.

Click on this link to watch the lesson video (Multiply 2 digits by 2 digits and Multiply 3 digits by 2 digits) (from White Rose Maths) and then complete the activities below.

Tuesday 29th September

Today's lesson explains how we can multiply a 2-digit number by a 2-digit number.
