What is Space?

This week I am including a new unit all about space. In the first lesson, we will learn about what can be found in space. We will also learn how scientists gather information about space. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

What are the planets in our solar system?

In this lesson, we will be learning all about the different planets in our solar system. We will learn a fact about each planet and you'll hear a clever way of remembering the order of the planets. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

How does the Earth orbit and rotate?

In this lesson, we will be learning about how the earth orbits and rotates. We will learn how long it takes for the earth to orbit the sun and we will learn why we have seasons. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

What are constellations?

In this lesson, we will be learning about stars and their temperatures. We will also learn about constellations. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

When and how was space discovered?

In this lesson, we will be learning how and when space was discovered. You will be creating a timeline to help you remember all the key dates. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil, and a ruler if you have one.

You may remember what we have already learnt about Neil Armstrong and his amazing space adventure!

Plants: Grow your own cress

Time Lapse - Garden Cress

The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle

A beautiful tale of adventure and inspiration. Watch and listen as The Tiny Seed travels through the seasons on an adventure of a lifetime!

The Plant Song

Growing Beans Timelapse

Watch this time lapse of a sprouting bean seed .

Plant activities for you to complete:

Explore the outdoors, looking at how plants disperse their seeds and why. Think specifically about plants that spread their seeds by utilising the wind. Make a seed helicopter and a dandelion seed.

Consider different ways that plants can disperse their seeds, including seed designed to stick on animals and humans. Complete the sorting activity.

Plant beans in bags of water and watch them grow. What will happen to the bean left growing in the cupboard?Red kidney beans or butter beans work well but must be soaked over night first.

During Spring 2 our Science topic was Materials. The following link will reinforce this knowledge.

Our Summer term topic is all about plants . Get started discovering plants clicking on the following link.

Bird Spotting

Whilst you are getting some fresh air in the garden , make it an opportunity to spot different species of birds. Make sure you are not making too much noise or movement , otherwise you'll scare them away !
